Chin K. YEUNG
Mr. Yeung has for many years studied vocal technique and conducting. In early years, he studied singing under Prof. L.M.H. O'Young in Hong Kong. From 1972 to 75, Mr. Yeung took Music Education, major in Vocal Training in the State Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna, Austria. Since he came to Canada in 1975, he has been very busy as member and guest soloist for many choral societies.
He has performed with well known choral groups such as the Richard Eaton Singers of Edmonton, Valley Festival Singers of Clearbrook, B.C., and the Ottawa Brahm's Choir to name a few. Over the years, he had been conductor of many church choirs including the H.K. Christian Soldiers Choral Society, the Abbotsford Christian Choral Society, choirs of Alliance Churches in Belleville, Edmonton, Zion Christian Reformed Church of Abbotsford, BC, and presently in the Ottawa Chinese Bible Church.
Mr. Yeung is presently an active member of the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, Opera Lyra Ottawa and conductor and solo performer of the Ottawa Christian Chorale. Since 1988, he has been conducting the Ottawa Chinese Cantabile Chorus, and presently You-In (The Ottawa Chinese Choir). He also founded the Chinese Children Singers of Ottawa in 1992 and is the current music director of the group.
With the You-In Chorus and the Children Singers, Mr. Yeung has contributed to the enrichment of chorale music and training in the Chinese Community of Ottawa. He led the groups into many important functions, musical tours and performances with great success.
Since he became a Christian at an early age of 12, when he was raised in a Methodist background. Mr. Yeung led choirs of all churches he affiliated with, wherever he was. He emphasizes in serving each other among Christian musicians, particularly in areas of worship and devotion. He gave choral workshops on vocal techniques, voice building, conducting, training of choir members, praise teams and song leaders and the development of worship servers for different churches.
